SONiA disappear fear is playing solo acoustic concerts from home on every other Tuesday. This week, Terrific Tuesday is dedicated to Freemuse's Music Freedom Day: On 3 March 2021, Freemuse and partners in 40 countries around the world will celebrate the 15th annual Music Freedom Day and stand united in solidarity with artists facing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, through local and online events. Initiated in 2007, Music Freedom Day is a powerful global celebration of the human right to artistic expression on 3 March each year. Freemuse facilitates the day to highlight the role and impact of art in our societies and to advocate for the universal rights to create, perform and take part in artistic expressions. This year, by focusing on the theme ‘Imagine A Pandemic Without Art’, Music Freedom Day intends to raise awareness of the challenges faced by artists and performers during COVID-19, and to remind us not to take art, and the space for artists for granted. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the cultural sector has been facing paradoxical challenges. We have seen a surge in the consumption of creative content throughout the lockdown period, in a time where the global pandemic has further shrunk the limited space for culture and art. The global health crisis has forced artists and artistic freedom defenders to seek an online audience, but they face large repercussions when they use their creative skills to express their opinion online. We are forever consuming arts, scrolling past photographs, skipping through our playlist, and switching on a movie to find a moment of joy in this moment of uncertainty. If art is a powerful tool to connect, heal and inspire in a time of social distancing, how can artists play this key role in our societies if their ability to fully express themselves through art is restricted?
